P.E.A.T. helps patients and pets stay together!

P.E.A.T. of Sun City Center is a resource network (supported by HCA Florida South Shore Hospital, All About Paws and local emergency personnel) for aiding local residents who find themselves in an emergency healthcare situation and are unable to care for pets at home while receiving healthcare services at a local hospital, assisted living or skilled nursing facility.

Do you need P.E.A.T.?

Many residents will leave the hospital, a healthcare facility or against medical advice (AMA) half-way through their care and without vital treatment for themselves in order to care for a pet or pets at home. This is a big concern because patients end up not receiving vital treatment that they need to get well and both patient and pets suffer.

What is P.E.A.T. about?

P.E.A.T. will help patients, family members or emergency responders connect with local pet service resources when there is no one to take care of a pet or pets at home during a patient hospitalization. P.E.A.T. also offers residents in the community a way to instantly alert emergency and clinical personnel caring for them that they may have a pet at home who shouldn't be forgotten about and who may need rescue or alternate care while the patient is in the hospital. P.E.A.T. provides wallet cards, refrigerator magnets, window clings and key tags that alert medical personnel that a pet is at home and needs care should a resident become ill, hospitalized and unable to care for their pet. The resident, designated caregiver or emergency personnel can then notify P.E.A.T. that there is a pet care concern and P.E.A.T. will work to try to connect the resident with resources.

It is important to know that P.E.A.T. does not itself provide pet services but maintains a resource guide of third-party providers that local residents can choose from to aid them with pet care. All arrangements for a pet's care are to be made by the resident, patient or family member directly through resources provided. South Bay Hospital and P.E.A.T. do not recommend or warrant resource pet service providers on appropriateness of pet service. Pet owners contract with resource pet service providers at their own risk and cost.
